*WW Moonshadow is a very special addition to our barn.  You see in late 2004 we brought home his full sister *WW Jazzy Peacock only to lose her less than 2 days later in a freak accident.  We were devastated.  A few weeks later we decided to purchase a full sibling to *Jazzy in-utero.  As any breeder knows, buying the unborn is a crap shoot but at the time we were willing to  take our chances as it gave us something to look forward to instead of dwelling on the past.

In late June 2005 Pat Wilson called to tell us our new foal had arrived.  We had no idea what to expect but we really didn't care so long as mare & foal were happy and healthy.  Our jaws dropped when we received the first photos of *Mooney.  We aren't big fans of pinto coloration but this guy wears his spots well!  We would never have imagined having a second black stud in our barn but here he is!  He came home in mid-October of 2005.

*Mooney is developing into a classy and charismatic young man.  At 2 years of age he stands 15 hands high and weighs in at a whopping 1000 pounds.  We are very confident he'll be at least 15'2 hands at maturity and should weigh in at a solid 1300 pounds.  Like most curlies *Mooney is incredibly intelligent, a willing learner and has to be involved in anything his humans are doing.  He also has a very playful and mischievous side to his character but he never behaves in a disrespectful manner.  As a yearling all of his ground skills are in place and he has been lightly introduced to lunging.  His first saddling was a big non-event; the only objection he had was the tightening cinch woke him up.  He will also allow me to sit on him while he is lying down in the paddock!!  What a good boy!  Now begins the waiting game!  I can hardly wait to see what this boy is like under saddle.

UPDATE:  Moon has started his education under saddle!!  He is so smart and so willing.  Nothing fazes this boy!  Another example of a well raised and well handled young Curly horse!!!

*Mooney's sire is *Curly Tom who is half Belgian.  We are sad to report that *Curly Tom passed away in May 2006.  Our condolences to Pat Wilson & family.

*Mooney's dam is the wonderful old *Miss Fort Berthold (a.k.a. Jamie) who is from the Standing Rock Reservation.

We certainly weren't looking for a second stud but we can't find any compelling reasons to geld him at this time.  Our eldest mares are entering mid-life so it's now time to think about creating some replacement mares from these fine girls.  These mares have produced well with *Ben but we are hoping to add some height and bulk by crossing them with *Mooney.  Of course a touch of flashy colour sure wouldn't hurt either.

*Mooney has covered his first two mares!!  We anxiously await the arrival of his first foals in June of 2008.

Sorry, *Mooney's services will not be offered to the public.

Check out that shoulder & hip!  This boy has it all going on.
We knew he was a good looking fellow but as he's maturing, he's taking it all to a whole new level!

And I thought getting good photographs of a black curly was tough...... a black and white pinto curly is even tougher especially if you want to show curls!  Here is a close up of *Mooney's winter coat and his mane!  He's very similar to *DCC Wyoming Gold in degree of curl and texture.  Very surprising considering they come from completely different bloodlines!

This 19 month old filly was put to rest after a freak accident less than 12 hours after these photos were taken.
